Benefits Open Enrollment

After having two Benefits Open Enrollment (BOE) periods in 2020 combining group insurance benefits and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) into one BOE period, introducing a new health plan option, and transitioning all group benefits to a calendar-based plan year, this year’s BOE will feel much more like open enrollments that employees are used to.

Running from October 18, 2021 through November 9, 2021, there will be a single, combined enrollment period for BOE, giving employees the ability to enroll in or change benefit and FSA elections for the upcoming 2022 plan year. January 1, 2022 is the effective date for new elections and changes, and is when deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums (OOPMs) will also reset. The final day of the 2022 plan year is December 31, 2022. Required documentation for any changes or additions made during BOE must be received by the MI HR Service Center by November 12, 2021. Agency HR offices must receive documentation from Auditor General and Judicial employees by the same date.
No new plans are being introduced during BOE this year, but employees are reminded of the addition of the State High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with Heath Savings Account (HSA) last year, the first offering of its type to all eligible1 state employees.

Starting January 1, 2022, the State Dental Plan annual benefit maximum for Diagnostic and Preventive Services, Basic Services, and Major Services will increase from $1,500 to $2,000.2
The BOE website, www.mi.gov/BOE, provides all the usual open enrollment information you have come to expect, and www.mi.gov/FSA is still the home for FSA resources.
